BREEAM assessments
The Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology (BREEAM) is a best practice standard for sustainable building design, construction and operation. Ecology is a key measure of sustainability in the BREEAM assessment process.
When undertaking BREEAM assessments, we work closely with our clients to maximise the number of credit points available.
The first stage in undertaking a BREEAM assessment is a site visit to map the habitats and record the plant species present. Data gathered during the site visit is then assessed against the BREEAM criteria. This includes assessing the current ecological value of the site and making recommendations to protect features of ecological importance, minimise reductions to the ecological value of the site, and enhance the ecological value of the site post-development. This can include the production of a management plan to ensure the recommended measures can establish and be sustained after project completion.
